The discussion of the palmtop interaction device system concept is divided into four sections: Motivations, Interaction Tasks, Applications, and Related Research. Actions are performed via ray-selected two-dimensional menus, direct object manipulation, proximity and ray casting object selection, and a 2D Virtual User Interface Color selection panel [Heath98]. § Use Familiar UI Tools – All Java user interface elements are standardized similar ...

Within Computer Science, Human Factors usually falls into the category of User Interface Design. The Star graphical user interface more closely resembles the graphical user interfaces of today than the text based interfaces of the past. Users who wanted a graphical user interface chose the Macintosh.

Graphics Interface is the Canadian annual conference devoted to computer graphics and interactive techniques. It is the oldest regularly-scheduled computer graphics and human-computer interaction conference; the first conference was held in 1969. Graphics Interface and Vision Interface are held annually as joint conferences on computer graphics, human-computer interaction, vision and image processing.

ABSTRACT We introduce the concept of Graspable User Interfaces that allow direct control of electronic or virtual objects through physical handles for control. Finally, we conclude by presenting a design space for Bricks which lay the foundation for further exploring and developing Graspable User Interfaces. Traditional graphical user interfaces (GUIs) define a set of graphical interface elements (e.g., windows, icons, menus) that reside in a purely electronic or virtual form.

The former are assessed by measuring the inter-page conceptual relevance and the latter by measuring the inter-page access co-occurrence. The discovery of pages that are conceptually related but rarely co-occur in visits suggests areas where Web site design improvement would be appropriate. Further, the technique suggests how to apply quantitative data obtained through a multiple regression analysis that predicts hyperlink traversal frequency from page layout features.

1.0 Abstract Caterpillar's Fate is a pattern language used to support the transformation from fine analysis documents to an initial software design. Just as the concept metamorphosis is used to explain the magical emergence of butterflies; Caterpillar's Fate explores the magic of constructing a system of objects from an object-free analysis. You are ready to connect the Workers Role(12) objects, the Interface Role(13) objects, and the Human Interface Role is a Special Interface Role(20) ...

At lunchtime, while Jane was out of her office, Sunil, the company's computer tech, installed a new version of VirusKiller 2.1 on her computer. It's not surprising that computer programmers like to see the underlying hierarchical file systems, but it is equally unremarkable that normal users like Jane don't.

We shoot for principles that are clear, fresh, and deeply grounded in peoples' everyday experiences. For the 1997 TED Conference we prepared some research-based principles for people who want to create compelling experiences (read, experiences that surprise and delight people). What we found: a model of what makes experiences compelling Defining the shared attributes of compelling experiences was tough.
